Election 2016 Poster

In the days following the 2016 presidential election, many people thought that the main reason the result was surprising was because many citizens were living in their own political and social bubble and strictly avoiding outside viewpoints, influencing the result and the reaction to it. This concept brought to mind Plato’s “The Allegory of the Cave” from “The Republic,” which I first read as an assignment in my Intro to Philosophy class at Rutgers-Camden in Fall 2014. Consequently, I created this tabloid-sized poster portraying what Plato had described, along with the accompanying slogan.

The time has come for us to be liberated from our caves...

I made the drawings myself using Photoshop and a Wacom tablet. This aspect was inspired by the work of Paul Rand, whenever he would feature a drawing of his on a piece, like a poster.

The layout of the sky background was aided with the golden page canon.

A mockup of the poster out in public. Whether people would heed its advice or not is presently uncertain.
