Vitruvia Titling

The characters in Vitrivua Titling are just all 26 letters and the ten numerals, 0-9.

Michael Jacoby created the humanistic typeface Vitruvia in 2016. He was inspired to create the typeface during his Rutgers-Camden Typography class in 2013. In one of his books for the class, he noticed a drawing similar to da Vinci's “Vitruvian Man” from the typography book “Champfleury” (1529) by Geoffroy Tory. He based the proportions of the typeface upon the the Virtuvian man and the image from the book, as well as digital versions of Tory's works. He had originally created a typeface with ligatures and small case characters, but for some reason, the software he was using ultimately failed to save most of the letters as he added more ligatures not added in the original version of the typeface (i.e., ffi), so he started from scratch and created the typeface closer to the original letterforms by Tory.

The final version of Vitruvia, referred to as Vitruvia Titling, is an all-caps display typeface available in Regular, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic. The Regular version has flared serifs while the bold version has standard-looking serifs; this is a result of the weight increase in the letterforms. In the original version of the Vitruvia typeface, the numerals were at caps height, with non-lining figures to be used for a small caps version, but as mentioned earlier, the original file was damaged and for some reason couldn't do it. So, I decided to use non-lining figures, just to make my display typeface more interesting, as said figures usually produce visually-interesting results.
