Covers for issues of my webcomic "The Sbuirrels," meant for advertising the issues and creating products based on them on Redbubble and Zazzle, as well as covers for book collections of the webcomic.

This cover, another version of "The Sbuirrels" issue "The Wound," is the final iteration of this little series of issue repeats/alterations. This cover is for issue #16, "Arc Conclusion."

This may look familiar, but it's actually the cover for the 15th issue of "The Sbuirrels," christened "Roadwork." Using the previous GIMP plug-in, it's made out of digitally-created colored die with black numbers.

The cover for the 14th issue of "The Sbuirrels," called "Fame." It's another remake of the cover for "The Wound," this time made out of black die with colored numbers (no racial implications are being stated here!).

Given the darker-than-usual nature of this story, I wanted a cover to showcase that. I knew I wanted to feature the shape of the cut and Ryan’s nervous face. I tried using the shape of the cut as sort of a border, as if we’re in the cut itself looking up, with Ryan’s face behind it against a spiral background, to represent his nervousness about the situation. I also knew I wanted to use Futura Book/Oblique after choosing the title “The Wound” because of the font’s sharp features.

I ended up placing a cruder version of the cut shape with Photoshop’s free form pen tool (when the regular pen tool didn’t properly produce the shape; I think the final crude shape fits more with the eerie tone of the cover) containing Ryan’s face against a solid crimson background with the title appearing to make the would itself. Minimalist yes, but I think it fits the ominous tone of the story perfectly, letting audiences know that this could be a darker issue of “The Sbuirrels” than its predecessors.

This was a very last-minute replacement for the tenth issue of "The Sbuirrels," "A Sbuirrels Christmas." This issue also is dedicated to my late mother, Elizabeth Jacoby (July 27, 1964 - April 29, 2020), who passed away due to complications of SMART syndrome. (Sorry for the whiplash, readers.)

Mary is Ed's girlfriend, also a North American red squirrel. She is kinder and calmer compared to her beau. She and Ed are deeply devoted to each other. Ryan, meanwhile, doesn't show any romantic feelings towards Mary and knows that she belongs with Ed.

Ed, a North American red squirrel, is a more crazy character, always showing a hint of barely-suppressed rage even at his most calmest. He was inspired by Nicolas Cage's character Eddie from "Deadfall" (1993)--don't take my word for it, go look up clips of him in that movie!
