Michael Jacoby's first typeface: A rough, industrial-inspired all-caps font called Kivos, developed and produced for his Typography class in Fall 2013.

![Three earlier versions of the Kivos poster I made based upon research for industrial-themed posters. The paragraphs on all three posters (as well as the final one) mostly read:
“Kids is an all-caps display typeface created by Michael Jacoby in 2013. Named for the Greek word meaning cube, it is made up of such shapes [only on the third early one; the other two say ‘made up of squares’], filling every other square in a 5x4 grid. The squares that occupy the spaces have a small square hole, resembling bolts. The overall feel of the typeface produces an industrial image.
Jacoby thought of the idea for the typeface while sketching ideas. During the process, he was thinking of dot-matrix printers and some bitmap typeface he had read about. He originally drew them as solid squares appearing in every other square in the grid. He show the idea to his class, who suggested adding holes to the squares. Jacoby had realized that the resulting forms resembled industrial bolts and went along with it.”](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/2c2b91_db8d6aebc44b4010a8e739b417d97f74~mv2.png/v1/fill/w_1,h_1,q_90/2c2b91_db8d6aebc44b4010a8e739b417d97f74~mv2.png)
