The memory thesis book for Michael Jacoby's Spring 2015 graphic design class for Rutgers-Camden, crafted to be a unique book to represent the topic.

My graphic design class and I had to design and produce our own respective thesis books in the Spring 2015 term.

We were assigned to create a book that also represented our thesis topic, like one from a previous class with a fetish thesis topic where it looks like an ordinary book except the cover was entirely in black leather.

The reason for this was our teacher wanted us to exercise our creative thinking skills and go beyond the standard definition of a book and what it could be.

My graphic design class and I had to design and produce our own respective thesis books in the Spring 2015 term.

We were assigned to create a book that also represented our thesis topic, like one from a previous class with a fetish thesis topic where it looks like an ordinary book except the cover was entirely in black leather.

The thesis topic I selected was memory and incorporated that into the creation of the book. What serves as the cover is a cork box, like a box you would put personal mementos in for safe-keeping.

The book’s pages are printed on 5x7 index cards, to evoke the kinds of index cards one would use to memorize or remember important information like when giving a public speech or studying before a test.

These cards lay on a piece of black foamcore with a section cut in the middle to prevent getting disordered when the whole book had to be carried around. A black ribbon is attached to the bottom and the foamcore to help the reader lift the card pages out of the box.
